2025 KMBA 18U Tournament Rules
1. All games will be played by Official Baseball Rules except as amended by the Ontario Baseball Association for any given Series.
2. Time limit will be in effect for every game except the final which will have no time limit. For all other games, no new inning will start 2 hours after the first pitch is thrown.
3. All games will be a maximum of 7 innings in length, except for the semi-finals and final which will go to extra innings if needed. Ties will stand for round robin games. A game will end under mercy rules if the run difference reaches any of the following:
i. 18 runs after 3 innings
ii. 15 runs after 4 innings
iii. 10 runs after 5 innings or any subsequent inning thereafter
4. If the home team leads after the top half of any such inning, the game shall be considered a mercy and the home team will not bat. Where the home team scores to take the lead in the 7th inning, any extra inning or any inning that will be the last inning because of a time limit, the game ends immediately. Similarly, if the home team scores a run that results in a mercy as described above the game ends immediately with that run.
5. If extra innings are required, OBA rule RP2.14 will be applicable (each half inning starts with a base runner on first and second base with 0 outs).
6. Home team for all games will be determined by a coin toss. The team furthest from the diamond will call it in the air.
7. The home team is to keep the official score. The away team is to keep the official pitch count. Pitch count shall be captured real time during the game using the PitchCount app. After the game, home team is to report score and defensive innings to the field convenor on site. OBA arm care rules per OBA rule RP2.11 will be strictly enforced throughout the tournament.
8. Protests based on umpires’ judgment decisions will not be permitted. A protest based on an umpire’s interpretation of the rules must be lodged with the umpire before the game resumes, and the opposing team must also be advised by the umpire before the game resumes. All protests will be resolved by the Tournament Convenor immediately following the completion of the game under protest.
9. Standings after round robin play will be determined by highest number of points earned in round robin games. 2 points will be awarded for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss. In the event that two teams have the same number of points after round robin play, tie breaker will be per OBA rule RP7.4:
i. Teams with a forfeit loss are ineligible for tiebreakers
ii. head to head record among tied teams;
iii. team with the smallest runs against ratio (runs allowed / number of defensive innings played) in games among tied teams;
iv. team with the smallest runs against ratio (runs allowed / number of defensive innings played) in all games;
v. team with the highest runs for ratio (runs scored / number of offensive innings played) in games among tied teams;
vi. team with the highest runs for ratio (runs scored / number of offensive innings played) in all games;
vii. coin toss
10. The 3 teams that win their respective pool PLUS a Wild Card team will move on to Sunday. These 3 teams that finish first in their respective pool after round robin play will then be seeded by the above ‘tie breaker’ rules. The next best record, using the same formula, will earn the Wild Card spot in the Championship Semi. 1st seed will play the Wild Card. 2nd seed will play 3rd seed.
11. The higher seeded team will have the option to be the home team for each elimination game on Sunday (bat first or second).
12. In the event that games are postponed due to weather, all reasonable attempts to reschedule games will be made such that the tournament can be completed at the discretion of the Tournament Convenor. In the event that not all games are completed, registration fees will be refunded on a pro-rated basis for games not played.
13. No infield practice will be allowed at any time during the tournament.
